How to do a fan stitchЯк вишивати віяло
Seven stitches from a small square's perimeter into one of its corners. Unlike an eyelet, the rays meet at the side rather than the middle — so the squares can be rotated into pinwheels. Work it in 7 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

- Four rays from the top edge converge on the bottom-left corner. Every one of them enters the same hole.Чотири промені з верхнього краю сходяться в нижньому лівому куті. Усі вони входять в одну дірочку.
- Three more from the right edge. The corner hole is crowded with thread by now: do not pull hard, or the canvas puckers.Ще три — з правого краю. Кутова дірочка вже переповнена ниткою: не тягніть надто сильно, бо канва зіжмакається.
Done. Four of these squares, turned corner to centre, make a pinwheel.
