Venus

This chart covers Venus Mouliné (stranded cotton floss): 478 colours in the catalogue Crosstela uses. Venus names its shades by number only, so a row gives the number and the swatch.

Stranded cotton, also called embroidery floss or mouliné, is a loosely twisted thread of several strands, usually six, that you separate and put back together to make the thread as thick as your cloth needs.

• Number. The number is the one the maker prints on the band or the label. Tap it to see the closest shades in other brands.
• Swatches. Colours are on-screen approximations: a monitor cannot show a thread’s sheen, and two screens never agree exactly.
• Nearest DMC. The grey “≈ DMC” number is the current DMC stranded cotton closest in colour on screen, by the same comparison Crosstela uses. It is a starting point; it is not a conversion table.
• Sort and filter. Sort by number, or by colour to line shades up the way a colour card does. The colour families are worked out from the colour itself, so they read the same in every brand’s chart.

• Before you buy for a pattern, compare real skeins: screen colour is not the skein.
• Looking for the same shade in another brand? Use the closest colour finder.
• The DMC color chart and the other thread charts are one tap away.
