How to do couchingЯк вишивати прикріп
A heavy thread is laid on the surface and held down by small stitches of a finer one. It is how anything that will not pass through the cloth is embroidered — metal thread, cord, wool. Work it in 4 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.
Товсту нитку кладуть на поверхню й притримують дрібними стібками тоншої нитки. Так вишивають усе, що не пройде крізь тканину, — металеву нитку, шнур, вовну. Усього 4 стібки: виводьте голку на лицевий бік у непарному номері й уводьте в наступному парному.

- The heavy thread is laid along the whole line — it enters the cloth only at its two ends.Товста нитка лягає вздовж усієї лінії — вона входить у тканину лише на кінцях.
- Now the second, finer thread: a short stitch across the laid thread presses it to the cloth.Тепер друга, тонша нитка: короткий стібок упоперек покладеної нитки притискає її до тканини.
- The second tack. Keep the spacing even — it will be visible.Другий прикріп. Відстані між ними тримайте однаковими — вони будуть видні.
- The third tack. On a curve the tacks go closer together, or the laid thread cuts the corner.Третій прикріп. На повороті прикріпи ставлять частіше, інакше нитка зріже кут.
Done. The laid thread stays whole on the surface — which is exactly why goldwork is worked this way.
