A ground of single faggot with large upright crosses laid on top, their arms reaching from one big hole of the ground to another. Work it in 4 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

A richer pulled filling for a shape that needs more weight than the ground alone. The crosses can cover the whole area or be placed to make a pattern.

Step by stepКрок за кроком
- First fill the shape with single faggot, each side over four threads, and pull it tight: that is what opens the cloth. Here it is the plain grid, and its big holes are where the crosses will sit. The faggot can also be worked over three threads.Спершу заповніть форму одинарним фаготом, кожна сторона через чотири нитки, і міцно його затягніть: саме він розкриває тканину. - Change to the second thread. Start low in the shape, in one of those holes, count two big holes upward and go down. Behind the cloth shift one hole right and one lower, and make the same long upright. The uprights climb the area on a diagonal.Візьміть другу нитку. - From the top of the last upright shift one hole right and one lower, then lay a long level stitch two holes to the left, across the middle of that upright. Repeat the move back down the line: right, down, two to the left. The ground has already done the pulling, so the crosses need only lie firm and straight. On the back you see the faggot’s diagonals and the short slants of the crosses.

Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- Pulling the crosses as hard as the faggot. They then drag the big holes out of square. Only the ground is pulled.Хрести затягнуті так само сильно, як фагот. Тоді вони перекошують великі дірочки. Тягнемо лише основу.
- Starting a cross in a small hole between the big ones. The arms then lie across the holes rather than ending in them: count big holes, not threads.Хрест починається не у великій дірочці, а між ними. Тоді рамена лежать поперек дірочок, а не закінчуються в них: рахуйте великі дірочки, а не нитки.
