How to do a four-sided stitchЯк вишивати чотиристоронній шов
A square of stitches over four fabric threads. The picture is not the point — the tension is: every side pulls the ground threads aside and holes open at the corners. Work it in 4 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

Step by stepКрок за кроком
- The thread comes up at the bottom left and runs vertically over four fabric threads — the square's left side.Нитка виходить унизу зліва й піднімається вертикально через чотири нитки тканини — ліва сторона квадрата.
- On the back the needle travels diagonally and comes up at the bottom right: the lower side runs right to left.На вивороті голка йде навскіс і виходить у нижньому правому куті: нижня сторона лягає справа наліво.
- The right side, top to bottom. Pull every stitch the same amount: it is the tension, not the length, that makes this stitch open.Права сторона — згори вниз. Кожен стібок тягніть однаково: саме натяг, а не довжина, робить цей шов ажурним.
- The top side closes the square. The back is left with nothing but diagonals — that is how this stitch is recognised.Верхня сторона замикає квадрат. На вивороті лишилися самі діагоналі — по них шов і впізнають.
