Tiny triangles, all pointing the same way, scattered over the shape: close together for shadow, far apart for light. Work it in 9 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

Shading in blackwork: faces, soft folds and edges that fade out. Because the triangles are not joined, this one needs a thread that can cross the back, so take care on pale cloth.

- Make the first triangle in one trip round: a stitch along one side, under the second, on top along the third. Then come back the same way, filling the sides you passed underneath. - A random scatter that turns into rows: the eye picks up lines at once. Rotate the work now and then, and look at it from a distance.Розсип, що перетворюється на ряди: око одразу помічає лінії. Час від часу повертайте роботу й дивіться здалеку.
- Long carries across open cloth: they show as shadows from the front. Fasten off and start again if a jump is too long.Довгі переходи по відкритій тканині: їх видно як тіні з лиця. Якщо перехід задовгий, закріпіть нитку й почніть знову.
