Every link is a loop that goes back down the very hole it came out of, held in place by the next loop. It is the lazy daisy's petal, only not detached. Work it in 5 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

Odd numbers: the needle comes up. Even numbers: it goes down.

Step by stepКрок за кроком
- The thread comes up at the start of the line and goes back down the same hole, leaving a loose loop. The needle comes up ahead — inside the loop — and draws it snug.Нитка виходить на початку лінії й повертається в ту саму дірочку, лишивши вільну петлю. Голка виходить попереду — всередині петлі — і затягує її.
- The second link starts in the hole the needle just came out of: the loop grows out of the loop before it.Друга ланка починається в дірочці, де щойно вийшла голка: петля виходить із попередньої петлі.
- The third link. Do not over-tighten: the loop must stay round, or the chain flattens into a thread.Третя ланка. Не затягуйте: петля має лишатися округлою, інакше ланцюжок стане ниткою.
- The fourth link — all the same length, and that sameness is what makes a chain a chain.Четверта ланка — довжина в усіх однакова, і саме це робить ланцюжок ланцюжком.
- The last loop has nothing to hold it, so a tiny stitch across its tip pins it down.Останню петлю нема кому тримати, тож її притягує крихітний стібок через кінчик.
Done. One of these loops on its own is a lazy daisy.
