A stitch forward, then the next one coming up through the middle of it, splitting the thread: a fine line that looks like a very small chain. Work it in 6 passes: bring the needle up at each odd number and down at the even number after it.

- Come up at the start of the line and go down a stitch’s length ahead, on the line. Draw the thread through to the back.Виведіть голку на початку лінії й уведіть на довжину стібка далі, по лінії. Протягніть нитку на виворіт.
- Push the needle up through the middle of that stitch, so that its point divides the thread. Stranded cotton in an even number of strands splits most cleanly; a single twisted thread is harder.Виведіть голку знизу крізь середину цього стібка, щоб її вістря розділило нитку. - Keep every stitch as long as the first, each one starting from the middle of the one before. Tips and common mistakesПоради й типові помилки
- Coming up beside the stitch instead of through it. That is stem stitch, and it gives a slanted line, not this tiny chain.Голка виходить поруч зі стібком, а не крізь нього. Це вже стебловий шов, і лінія виходить скісна, а не дрібний ланцюжок.
- Splitting off centre: the line gets one thin side and one thick. Aim for the middle of the strands.Розщеплення не посередині: один бік лінії тонкий, другий товстий. Цільте в середину ниток.
